Get excited for the 2011 National Book Awards – tonight!
Tonight is the culmination of red-carpet season for books.
This evening authors, editors, and other stars of the literary world will gather at the posh Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan for the presentation of this year’s National Book Awards. Out of more than 1,000 submissions, the judges have narrowed down the list to five finalists in each category: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, and Young People’s Literature. And, for the first time ever, the awards ceremony will be webcast live on the National Book Foundation’s website starting at 8 pm (EST). It’s like the Oscars of the book world. Or maybe more like the Golden Globes, as dinner will be served.
I can’t wait to see which of these finalists might be the next:
Wondering who we’re rooting for? Admittedly I haven’t read all the finalists (too many books, too little time!), but a bunch of us here at Just the Right Book and our sister bookstore, RJ Julia, loved The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht — conveniently just out in paperback this week.
