2011 National Book Award finalists from small presses

October 17, 2011

Last week the finalists for the National Book Awards were announced. Read the full list of finalists for the Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People’s Literature here.

I’m happy to see works from several small and indie presses have earned nominations, in addition to worthy titles from better-known publishers. The small/indie/university presses with nominees are:

Bellevue Literary Press (for The Sojourn by Andrew Krivak)

Lookout Books (for Binocular Vision by Edith Pearlman)

Graywolf Press (for The Convert by Deborah Baker)

TriQuarterly (for Head Off & Split by Nikky Finney)

University of Chicago Press (for Devotions by Bruce Smith)

The winners will be announced on November 16th. And now I want to read every single one of the fiction nominees.
